Trick your Mind into Exercising

Everyone hates exercising. Even I used to. Yes, past tense. Used to hate it but not anymore. Right now actually, I love my exercising routine. Don’t judge me. I am not a freak or an exercise addict. I am a completely normal person like you are.

There were days when I used to hate it but things changed for good. I’ll tell you how I started loving something I hate and believe me, you’ll be happily stunned. All you need to do is trick your mind.

Yes, stop letting your brain play with you. It is time you played a tad with it for your own benefit. Every time you feel lazy or too tired to go to the gym and workout, tell yourself you won’t do it for more than 10 minutes or just tell yourself you will run only a mile today.

Believe me, you will run more than a mile and you will exercise more than for 10 minutes. You might just end up extending your training to 45 minutes.

Don’t create impossible tasks for yourself. Keep them simple and short. If it exceeds the short limit, good for you (and surely it will). If it does not, well something is always better than absolutely nothing!

Don’t Let the Diet Wreckers Get You

Parties are generally diet wreckers. We all tend to get a tad too careless when we are hosting parties. We end up eating more than we should and that wrecks our diet like nothing else could. Are you planning on hosting a barbecue bash? Or a pool party? Or just any party? Well, there are ways to keep your food intake in control. Here are three fail proof tips.

Firstly, choose lean meat. Of course hot dogs and beef burgers are traditional and almost a must have at a party but you could go for something like chicken or tuna steak. White meat turkey is also a good option. You could also add vegetarian to your menu and go for mushrooms.

Stay away from bread. Have lettuce though.

Keep booze to the bare minimum. You can replace alcohol with something like ice tea. If you have to drink and there is no way out, stick to white wine.

Here’s a mini tip that will help you a lot – drink about 2 glasses of water before the party. That will keep your appetite in check.

Different Types of Headaches

Headaches may be of different types. This is why it is important to know what kind of headache you usually suffer from so that you can follow the right treatment for it. Here are a few tips that will help you –

Tension headaches are the most common. You will feel pressure around the head with a lot of focus on the temples, neck and the back of your head. They are not very severe and don’t really affect day to day activities. They don’t cause dizziness, nausea or puking. Aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen are some treatments that will work for these headaches. These headaches are generally because of contraction of the scalp and neck muscles or changes in the chemicals in the brain.

Cluster headaches are more common in men than in women. They occur in cycles. They attack suddenly and cause a lot of crippling pain on any one side of the head with a watery eye and a runny nose on the same side. Restlessness and discomfort are common during an attack. The cause of such headaches is not known yet but scientists think it may be genetic. There is no cure either but the duration and the frequency can be decreased through medication.

Rebound Headaches are caused due to excess use of painkillers taken for headaches. Excess dose of aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen can cause these headaches. The theory behind this is that overdose shifts the brain to an excited state and this triggers more headaches.

Sinus headaches are due to infections and these are very painful. This happens when the infection causes your sinus to get inflamed. These headaches also come with fever. Presence of pus is the diagnostic feature. These headaches can be treated by using antihistamines and antibiotics.

Migraine Headaches can be genetic and there are certain diagnostic criteria. The last 5 headaches are examined. The duration should be between 4 hours to 72 hours. Headaches should either be one sided, there has to be throbbing pain and pain should be crippling enough to cease routine activity and also get worsened by daily routine. Sensitivity to sound and light are also one criterion. Vomiting and/or nausea are common during migraines.
Hand numbness and visual distortions are common during migraines

Walnut your Way to Perfect Health

They look like a human brain and they are extremely beneficial for the actual human brain too. A study has proved that they are very beneficial especially for those who suffer with high levels of bad cholesterol. Every day intake of walnuts also reduces stress which is very important today. Walnuts are even known to regulate blood pressure and prevent it from fluctuating. In the study, three different types of food were given to three different groups. The first group got food that had no walnuts. The second got walnuts and walnut oil while the third got flaxseed oil and walnuts. The result revealed very clearly that the second group of volunteers had reduced levels of stress and regulated blood pressure. The third group of volunteers saw a reduce in the swelling of arteries and the risk of a heart attack.

Conclusion – 3 walnuts a day will help you more than oodles.

Treat Those Bites Right!

Bug bites are not only painful; they can be incredibly lethal too. More often than not we ignore bug bites and end up with severe rashes or even diseases. Here are a few bugs that can be lethal and a few tips to keep the bugs away.

The most common insects are mosquitoes. Their bite inflicts a bump that is red and itchy. They are usually harmless but they can cause a number of diseases because they may carry deadly viruses. To treat the bite, you must wash the bitten area with soap. If the swelling is too much, place an ice pack over it. The itching can be taken care of by an antihistamine or a lotion. Keep your surroundings clean and don’t let water stagnate in order to avoid mosquitoes.

Bites from bees can be extremely painful. The pain can get unbearable too and form a red colored itchy welt on your skin. Bee bites are generally just painful and frustrating unless you are allergic to them. To treat the bite, first remove the stinger from your skin using tweezers. Wash the bitten area and apply cold compress. If you feel dizzy, are short of breath, etc, then you are allergic. Call 911 immediately. When you go out for picnics, make sure you wear light colored clothes because bees get attracted to bright colors. Discard eatables – especially sweet – away from the place where you are camping.

Tick bites can be dangerous. They can cause diseases, pain and rashes. Redness, swelling and itching are common. If you were outdoors for long, check your place for ticks. Remove them immediately. If you are bitten, go to the doctor. If you are going to areas with tall grass and leafy debris, then wear long sleeves and cover yourself properly to avoid tick bites.

Bedbugs usually bite the face, hands, arms and neck. They are very painful but harmless. If you are bitten, take an antihistamine and apply cream containing hydrocortisone. When you check in to your hotel room, take a quick look around for bedbugs. Switch if you see any.

Chigger bites give rise to welts on armpits, knees and ankles most often. If you are bitten, take a hot water soapy bath and remove the chiggers gently with a washcloth. Itching will last for a few days. Use soothing lotions. If you are hiking, make sure you wear full sleeved clothes and shoes. You can use mosquito repellents against them too.

Does Coffee Cause Infertility?

Your daily cup of coffee keeps you awake, doesn’t it? Most of you surely can’t go a day without the coffee. Coffee is a part and parcel of almost everyone’s life today. Many people begin the day with a cup of coffee or tea and go through the rest of the day with occasional cups too. The drink keeps us going, yeah?

But here is some news for those who are trying to get pregnant. Studies have shown that coffee may lead to infertility. Baffling and scary but true.

Coffee apparently impairs the fallopian tubes by having a direct effect on the muscles. Eggs are carried by the fallopian tube to the uterus. The contractions of muscles are inhibited and thus, the egg is not transported to the uterus for fertilization.

Of course, the study was carried out on rodents and thus, nothing can be said for sure right now.

Better safe than extremely sorry though, isn’t it?

Take Care of Yourself

Staying fit is like a curse these days. With our hectic jobs and so much on our mind, we barely pay attention to our health. Exercise is very important to stay fit and we all know that. Yet, we choose to ignore it or sometimes, are forced to. Whatever the reason may be, it is surely not worth risking your health for.

The human body needs exercise to stay fit. Staring at your computer at work and staring at your TV at home while absently munching on junk food won’t help you even one bit. You need to move around, take a walk, eat good food and sleep well.

Begin the day with a brisk walk. Wake up just half an hour early and go for a walk. Trust me; it’ll do you a lot of good.

When you are in your office, keep your work environment friendly and relaxed. Get some flowers or probably a small potted plant. The fragrance will help you a lot. You won’t be stressed.

No matter what happens, never eat at your work desk. You won’t realize how much you are eating and what you are eating either. You will be too occupied with your work. So, move out of your cabin, go to the canteen or outside and eat calmly there.

Get good sleep. Don’t lay awake each night thinking about your work. Get a good 8 hours sleep so that you are fresh the next morning.

Just follow a few simple tips and stay fit. You don’t need to have a mini gym in the house for it. Some stretches, a little yoga, some meditation, etc is enough.

Take care!
